Tiruchirapalli: Supreme Petrochemicals Limited, the largest polystyrene producer in India, is eyeing a turnover of Rs1,600 crore in the current fiscal commencing from 1 July 2007, a top company official said on 19 September.
R Rangarajan, chief executive, (Export Marketing) said the turnover last year was ₹ 1,400 crore, of which more than 50% was realized through exports.
He said the company, part of the Mumbai-based Supreme Industries Group, has a strong export market across 85 countries in Europe, North America and Asia. Certain Latin American countries and from Africa have evinced interest in procuring polystyrene from the group, he told.
Polystyrene is a delicate material used mainly for disposable food services and also in manufacturing appliances like television sets, refrigerators and air conditioning units units. Another product of the company is PP compound (Poly Propylene) largely consumed by the automobile industry.
The company, which has a high end R&D facility in master products for the plastic industry would soon come out with an insulation material, christened X-PS, that could substantially reduce energy consumption in commercial and residential buildings, he said.
The product would roll out in the market in the first quarter of 2008 and the company has already invested Rs15 crore at their factory in Nagothane near Roha in Maharashtra, he said. Rangarajan was in the city on a private visit.
