Nissan launches Datsun redi-Go at Rs2.49 lakh
The redi-GO is Nissan's third vehicle under the Datsun brand in India
Mumbai: Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd on Tuesday launched redi-GO, a compact car under the Datsun brand. Priced at ₹ 2.49- ₹ 3.48 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai, the model is pitted against Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon, which are priced between ₹ 2.69 lakh and ₹ 3.38 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
We are redefining conventional expectations and notions associated with the entry level car segment in India with a modern, fresh, stylish and accessible product," said Guillaume Sicard, head of India operations at Nissan.
The redi-GO is the company’s third vehicle under the Datsun brand in India and has been fully developed in India.
Last year, the local arm of the Japanese car maker had launched a compact multi-purpose vehicle Go+ to add to the Go small car to expand its network in small towns to boost sales of its Datsun brand of vehicles. However, in an intensely competitive small car market, the volumes have been far from satisfactory.
Nissan launched the Datsun Go in India in 2014, marking the global comeback of the brand after nearly three decades. It had ambitions of cornering 10% share in the Indian passenger vehicles market by 2016 on back of the Datsun brand.
However, faced with a tepid response last year, it clarified that it would miss its target, but would advance the launch of a third vehicle from its Datsun brand in the country to propel growth. Both (Nissan and Datsun) now aim to garner 5% market share in India by 2020.
