New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) will head a consortium of six companies that will bid for iron ore deposits in Afghanistan, chairman C.S. Verma said on Tuesday.
Verma said the consortium includes NMDC Ltd, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd and three private companies that he did not identify.
The last date for bidding for the 1.8 billion tonnes Hajigak deposits is 4 September.
Government officials have said SAIL’s bid is being pushed by the ministry of external affairs as rival Chinese companies are seeking to establish a base in the neighbourhood.
