Dubai-based Vishwanathan Shankar will be the second person of Indian origin to be on the board of Standard Chartered Bank Plc. after the UK-based lender appointed him group executive director on Monday. He will join the board on 1 January.
Shankar, who took over as chief executive officer (CEO) for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas in May 2010, joins fellow Indian and Asia CEO Jaspal Bindra on the board.
Shankar, 53, joined Standard Chartered in 2001 after a 19 year-stint with Bank of America in Asia and the US. He has a bachelors degree in physics from Loyala College, Chennai and a masters in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
