Cisco, Tata to open public video conferencing rooms
San Francisco: US networking giant Cisco and India’s Tata Communications, in a move targeting businesses hoping to save money on travel, opened public video conferencing rooms around the globe on Wednesday, Cisco said.
Public Cisco TelePresence rooms were available for rent by the hour from Wednesday at Taj Hotels in Boston and London and in major cities throughout India, Cisco said in a statement.
Cisco Telepresence rooms and those of other companies are used by many businesses around the world but these are the first that will be open for rental by the public, Cisco said.
It said the facilities rent from $299 an hour to $899 an hour, can accommodate up to 18 participants in a single room and feature state-of-the-art video conferencing technology.
The public video conferencing rooms are located at Taj Hotels in Boston, London, Mumbai and Bangalore and at Confederation of India Industry (CII) offices in Bangalore, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, Cisco said.
Cisco said Tata intends to open 100 additional rooms by the end of 2009, including at the Pierre Hotel in New York.
