New Delhi: With its pockets growing deeper by the day, state-run telecom giant BSNL gave Rs 2,500 crore to the government on 22 February towards the repayment of Rs 7,500 crore loan disbursed to the company in 2000.
With this instalment on 22 February, the telecom firm has so far repaid Rs 4,500 crore of the loan, which has a tenure of 15 years.
BSNL, which was formed in 2000, has been earning profits in all the six years of its existence and continuously paying dividend to the government.
Last year, it paid more than Rs 11,000 crore to the government by way of service tax, income tax, dividend and loan repayment etc. The amount is further expected to rise due to growth in the business of the corporation.
