Milan: Italian Aerospace and defence company Finmeccanica unit AgustaWestland has said that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Sons for the assembly of helicopters in India,
The two companies will set up a joint venture (JV) company that will assemble and deliver to final customers the AW119 helicopter, over 190 of which have to date been ordered.
AgustaWestland will retain responsibility for worldwide marketing and sales, Finmeccanica said in a statement.
The first helicopter from the new facility will be delivered in 2011 and production will rise to 30 aircraft per year to meet demand.
The JV will be supplier for the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Helicopter programme of the Indian Armed Forces, it said.
AgustaWestland and Tata companies also plan to explore additional commercial opportunities in India for AgustaWestland helicopters, it said.
