Bangalore: Bangalore International Airport Ltd (Bial), the operator of the Bangalore airport, will invest Rs600 crore to expand its only terminal to accommodate 17 million passengers by 2015, up from 10 million now.
Work on the expansion would begin in September, Bial said in a statement on Friday.
G.V. Krishna Reddy, chairman of GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd, which owns 29% in Bial, has been made vice-chairman of the airport operator. G.V. Sanjay Reddy, managing director of Mumbai International Airport Ltd, also run by the GVK group, has been made Bial’s managing director.
“When completed, Terminal 1 will be expanded by 70% of the existing building with an additional passenger space of 40,000 sq. m,” Krishna Reddy said in the statement.
