Aurobindo Pharma gets US FDA nod for HIV drug

Mumbai: Drug maker Aurobindo Pharma has received tentative approval from US Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market Abacavir Sulfate and Lamivudine tablets, used in the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
“The tablets are the generic equivalent of Epizcom tablets of Smithkline Beecham and fall under the anti-retroviral segment," the company said in a filling to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
“Aurobindo would manufacture and market Abacavir Sulfate/Lamivudine tablets in the strengths of 600 mg and 300 mg," the filing said.
The products have been reviewed under the President’s emergency plan for AIDS relief. This is Aurobindo 76th abbreviated new drug application approval from US FDA.
Shares of the company were trading at Rs320, up 1.25% in afternoon trade on the BSE.
