New Delhi: Anil Ambani Group firm Reliance Power today said it will commission the 4,000 MW-ultra mega power project at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh in March 2013, three years ahead of schedule.
“The Sasan power project would be commissioned in March 2013, 36 months prior to its scheduled time i.e. April 2016," Reliance Power CEO Jayarama Prasad Chalasani told reporters here.
The first 660 MW unit of this project would be commissioned in December 2011, 16 months ahead of its schedule of May 2013 and the second 660 MW unit would be commissioned in March 2012, he said.
The company would start mining for the Sasan project three months before the commissioning of first unit, in September 2011.
The total coal requirement for this project is 14-15 million tonnes.
Sasan Power Ltd, the special purpose vehicle of Reliance Power for executing the Sasan project, has signed a supplementary power purchase agreement with all the 14 procurers from seven states.
The agreement was signed between procurers and Sasan Power Ltd at Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Reliance Power is developing another 4,000 MW-ultra mega power project at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The fuel required for that project would be imported from the company’s coal blocks in Indonesia.
The company may acquire more coal blocks in Indonesia.
