Discovery to launch 3 new channels in India
New Delhi: Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) on Wednesday said it will launch three new 24-hour channels in India.
The company will launch Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery HD in the country and has received permission for that from the ministry of information and broadcasting, DNAP said in a statement.
“The launch of three new networks reflects the company’s commitment and focus on India and furthers our strategy for increasing our reach and distribution in key markets around the world," DNAP executive vice-president and managing director Tom Keaveny said.
The company plans to launch Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo on both analog and digital platforms, while Discovery HD, offered in 1080i along with 5.1 surrounds sound, will be launched on the digital platform. All three channels will be available in English.
The company, however, declined to comment on the launch date.
With the addition of these new channels, Discovery’s bouquet now consists of six channels. The channel currently offers Discovery Channel, Discovery Travel & Living and Animal Planet.
