Frankurt: Europe’s biggest airline, said passenger traffic rose 3.1% in April on increased travel to destinations in the Americas and Asia.
The load factor or proportion of seats filled, decreased 0.8% point to 82.3% as the airline offered 4.1% more seating capacity, Paris-based Air France-KLM said in a statement today.
The number of passengers increased 1.8%, going up to 6.31 million travelers. Chief Executive Officer Jean-Cyril Spinetta, who led Air France’s purchase of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines NV in 2004, has used higher fares and oil surcharges to boost earnings.
Dual bases in Paris and Amsterdam have helped the airline attract travelers for connecting flights. Fiscal third-quarter profit tripled and the airline in February forecast “very strong results” for the year ended March 31.
