Mumbai: Renault has set up a logistics facility in India which it said will be a part of its global supply network and should contribute about $315 million worth of component exports by end 2009.
The French vehicle maker, which has a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd for the Logan sedan, is also developing a low-cost car with Nissan Motor and motorbike maker Bajaj Auto Ltd.
Renault, which also has a satellite design centre in India, said in a statement it would export finished components to manufacturing facilities around the world from the new logistics centre in Pune.
“While the needs of Indian automotive buyers will be addressed through the Renault range of passenger vehicles, the Pune facility will help support the international development of Renault,” said Sylvain Bilaine, managing director for India.
The company expects India to make a strong contribution to Renault worldwide in the next 3-5 years.
