New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today declined to stay the process of spectrum allocation to Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications and other telecom entrants, as demanded by a lobby of GSM mobile operators.
Justice Geeta Mittal, however, agreed to advance the date of hearing and listed the matter for 21 January 2008, instead of the earlier scheduled date of 31 January.
The court also issued notices issued to the Centre, RCom, Tata Teleservices and others on the plea of Cellular Operators Association of India, which represents GSM players such as Bharti Airtel, to stay the allocation.
The Department of Telecom, on January 10, had issued letters of intent to eligible new aspirants and also approved GSM spectrum allotment to RCom. COAI had approached the High Court against the Centre’s decision of allocating spectrum to RCoM.
