GM launches Beat diesel
New Delhi: General Motors India Pvt. Ltd on Monday introduced a diesel version of its Beat small car priced at Rs4.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The car will directly compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s Swift and Ford Motor’s Figo, the company said.
“There is not a comparable diesel car in this segment. So we are looking at the entire small car segment," said Karl Slym, president and managing director, GM India.
Slym said 30% of all cars sold run on diesel but the dynamics are changing as the fuel is cheaper than petrol.
The company expects the sales of Beat to almost triple with the diesel version. The company sells 2,500-3,000 units of Beat per month and aims to increase it to 7,000-8,000 units with the diesel version of the car.
The company has received at least 1,500 bookings for the diesel version.
