Skoda Auto to get bigger development role from Volkswagen: report
Prague: Skoda Auto is to have an increased role in developing components for parent company Volkswagen Group, outgoing board member responsible for development, Harald Ludanek said on 6 March.
He told the Czech daily Dnes: “At the moment (development for Volkswagen) accounts for around 10% of our development capacity but that could easily rise to 15%."
Ludanek is taking up a new position in Germany as Volkswagen’s head of car development and prototypes.
The Czech manufacturer, which has already turned into one of the main profit pillars of the Volkswagern Group thanks to its lower costs, could develop a new engine, Ludanek added without giving details.
Skoda has already played a role in developing a 1.2 litre engine, interiors, car bodies and brakes for its parent company, he added.
The Czech company plans to open a 1.0 billion koruna (35.5 million euros, $46.6 million) research and development centre next year which will primarily be targeted at Skoda’s own projects but also increase its ability to take on extra work for the parent company.
