New steel tech for Tata Singur plant
Kolkata: Tata Ryerson Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture promoted by Tata Steel Limited and US-based Ryerson Tull, is investing in new technology for mass production of cars at the Tata Motors Singur plant in West Bengal. The steel processing company, a principal supplier of sheet metal products for all Tata Motors vehicles, will provide roll-formed sections used for car body structures and steel blanks used to support window frames. The new technology will replace the conventional press work technology. “The new technologies will be introduced for mass production of vehicles," said Sandipan Chakravortty, managing director, Tata Ryerson Ltd. Tata Motors will use newer varieties of steel for the Rs1 lakh car.
