New Delhi: Lincoln Pharmaceuticals on Monday said it has received patent approval for a nasal spray, which would help prevent vomiting and nausea.

The company has won the patent for a novel nasal drug delivery system (NDDS) that helps in arresting vomiting and nausea, Lincoln Pharma said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

It particularly could help in chemotherapy induced vomiting, it added.

“We wanted to provide immediate relief to people suffering from this problem. Now after winning the patent for the novel NDDS, we will be able to help patients experience relief with in a few minutes," Lincoln Pharma managing director Mahendra G. Patel said.

Clinical trials for Ondansetron Hydrochloride, the molecule that serve as agent for arresting or preventing vomiting and nausea have proved its efficacy, the company said.

Nasal administration is primarily suitable for potent drugs as only a small quantity can be sprayed into nasal cavity, it added.

Presently anti-vomiting treatments in India are limited to tablets and injections which take a longer time to bring relief.

Shares of Lincoln Pharma today closed at Rs40.85 on the BSE, up 4.34% from its previous close.
