Subhiksha employees protest over non payment of dues

Ahmedabad: Employees of Chennai-headquartered Subhiksha retail grocery store on Monday ‘laid seige´ at the local head office and created ruckus following alleged non payment of salaries.
“We have not got salary for the last four months. The cheques issued by the management bounced as there were no funds in the account,” a Shubhiksha employee among protesters outside the head office of company here alleged.
However, no complaint was registered with the police.
The Gujarat Head of Subhiksha Asish Sharma, said “I am not in a position to comment about the status, and not aware what is happening.”
On being contacted Subhiksha vice-president marketing Mohit Khattar said over telephone “I am not aware what is happening in Ahmedabad, and neither I am aware that our stores in Gujarat have been closed.”
A former employee of Shubhiksha said, “I resigned in March 2008 as the retail store was not doing all that well and there were indications that management will close down its operations in Gujarat.”
“There are around 27 retail store of Subhiksha in Ahmedabad alone and about 70 stores spread across Gujarat. Some of the stores have already closed down,” he said on condition of anonymity.
The retail store belonging to the group in Navrangpura locality closed a few months ago.
