New Delhi: Faced with political opposition that led to suspension of work at the Singur project, Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata on Thursday hinted that he has not lost all hope of delivering the Rs1 lakh to the country as per schedule. 3fd43f0a-7a9e-11dd-9d34-000b5dabf613.flv

“Obviously, we are a company which wants to launch Nano as planned. We will try to do everything possible to launch Nano as planned," Tata said at the 48th SIAM Annual Convention 2008 here.

It was, however, not clear if the first lot of Nano would roll out from Singur or an alternate location, plans for which are under consideration by Tata Motors. Asked if customers would be able to buy Nano by October, its initial deadline, Ratan Tata was enigmatic, “The question needs to be asked not to me but to others."

Earlier addressing the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers annual Convention, Tata, said that the company is also planning to focus on small cars packed with accessories to tap the international market in future. He said, “Markets in US and Europe are looking for small cars at the top end loaded with accessories. If the small cars are packaged effectively and the powertrains are more fuel efficient, small cars will sell in the developed market".

Tata was the center of attraction at the annual conference of the automobile industry with many wondering whether he will carry out his threat of moving the Rs1,500 crore project out of West Bengal. Tata sources indicated that it would be premature to comment on it as the West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi has called a meeting on Friday between the state government and protesting Trinamool Congress representatives in a bid to resolve the stalemate
