At present, domestic passengers departing from the Hyderabad airport have to pay a UDF of `430 plus taxes (effectively `484 per passenger) and international passengers have to pay `1,700 plus taxes (`1,910).

Mumbai: India’s airports regulator, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (Aera), has scrapped the user development fee (UDF) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad operated by the GMR Group-controlled GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, effective 1 April.

At present, domestic passengers departing from the Hyderabad airport have to pay a UDF of 430 plus taxes (effectively 484 per passenger) and international passengers have to pay 1,700 plus taxes ( 1,910).

In its order dated 24 February, Aera said it “has determined UDF as Zero with effect from 1 April till 31 March 2016 for both domestic and international embarking passenger".

UDF is a charge levied by airports on passengers to recoup the investment on development work such as the building of a new terminal building or a new runway.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport did not offer any comments to the story.

Aera, in its order posted on its website, has also said the passenger service fee will be restricted at 130 per passenger starting 1 April instead of the current 200 per passenger.

“PSF will now comprise only the security component of 130 per embarking passenger with effect from 1 April and there will no faciliation component in the PSF," Aera said in its order.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with the government of India (13%), government of Andhra Pradesh (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (11%).

The Hyderabad airport was commissioned in March 2008, with an initial capacity of 12 million passengers per annum and 150,000 tonne of cargo handling capacity per annum.
