Eicher launches light truck to take on Tata Motors
Eicher Pro 1049 has been priced at `7 lakh for the Bharat Stage III and `8 lakh for BSIV variants (ex-showroom, Mumbai)
Mumbai: Eicher Trucks and Buses Ltd launched the Eicher Pro 1049 truck on Monday, marking its entry into the sub-five tonne category.
Priced at ₹ 7 lakh for the Bharat Stage III (BSIII) and ₹ 8 lakh for BSIV (ex-showroom, Mumbai) variants, the new product with a gross weight of 4.9 tonnes is pitted against the Tata 407 pick-up, among others.
Fuelled by the need for a vehicle that can offer last-mile connectivity for transporters of perishable goods like poultry, fruits, vegetables and milk, sales of light and medium duty trucks – those with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 to 5 tonnes—have been growing at a rapid pace, said Shyam Maller, senior vice president, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd.
The company plans to sell 2,000 units of the new model per month.
Maller said the sub-five tonne segment has great potential in the commercial vehicle industry as it has a better reach in semi-urban and rural areas. Eicher’s sales in the segment grew 31.7%, outpacing the industry’s average of 25%.
Eicher Motors shares fell 1.12% to ₹ 19,939.45 at the close of trading on the BSE on a day the benchmark Sensex fell 0.62% to 25,678.93 points.
