ING Vysya donates Rs65 lakh to UNICEF
New Delhi: ING Vysya employees raised ₹ 65 lakhs to provide more than 4300 children with primary education.
Under the bank’s local charity wing, ‘ING Vysya Foundation’ its Indian based businesses’ employees presented a contribution of Rs65 lakh to UNICEF. This would help child labourers in the Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts of Tamil Nadu to avail of primary education.
The funds were raised under an internal initiative called ‘I love my school’, which supports ING’s global community development initiative – ING Chances for Children (ING CfC). Under this the company aims to work with UNICEF and other local charity
Speaking on behalf of the businesses, Vaughn Richtor, who is also an Ambassador of the ING CFC programme, stated: “With this initiative, ING Vysya Foundation reiterated its commitment to projects for under privileged children. Last year employees raised Rs42 lakh enabling 2700 children to go to school. This year’s focus is to keep these children in school and provide them with primary education in UNICEF-supported bridge schools."
These schools provide children with individual attention and quality education for three years, bringing their education in line with their proper age group before sending them to a regular school.
