New Delhi: Industry chamber Assocham will in collaboration with ZAK Trade Fairs organize a 5-day Salaam India Expo in Singapore between 15-19th August 2007 with the objective of showcasing Indian industry’s strength in Asean Region.

Over 200 companies having core competence in 15 key economic sectors will take part. These include Engineering, Auto Components, Oil and Gas, Biotech, Real Estate, Agricultural Products and Processed Food, Software and IT, Apparel and Textiles, Chem-Pharma and Investment Expo.

Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce would support the event to bring Asean, especially Singapore closer to India. The Expo will unveil opportunities available for Indian companies to export products and services .

Indo-ASEAN trade in 2004 was $13.25 bn (Rs59,625 crore) and Asean has become India’s fifth most important trading partner.

Catherine McNabb, Director, Singapore Tourism Board said that Singapore with presence of 7000 MNCs andlarge enterprises with 23 regional headquarters has become an ideal destination for exploring business opportunities. The country is also having easy access to 57 countries (184 cities) via 83 airlines with more than 37,000 hotel rooms.

According to Director, Singapore Tourism Board, growth in India’s exports to Asean in recent years has been much higher in comparison with other important destinations. India’s exports to Asean include gems and jewellery, meat and meat preparations, cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, engineering goods, transport equipment, machinery and instruments, electronic goods, marine products, drugs and pharmaceuticals, chemicals etc.

D S Rawat, Secretary General, Assocham said that the Exhibition will attract domestic and overseas players from sectors like engineering, auto, medical tourism, real estate, biotech.
