Tirichurapalli: Power plant equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has chalked out an ambitious Rs1,000 crore two year expansion programme, focusing on valve production, advanced technology products and coal research, among other things.
The programme, which is the third phase, also envisaged expansion of the welding research institute seamless tube plant and modernisation of shop floors of the complex here, Bhel executive director V Ananthakrishnan said in a statement.
Preliminary works like the requisite civil structures had already been completed, he said.
Bhel spent about Rs190 crore in the first phase which was completed one year back. For the second phase, which will be completed by March 2009, an amount of Rs732 crore has been allotted and Rs1000 crore for the third phase.
Dwelling on the capacity augmentation schemes to meet national power addition programmes, he said Bhel had embarked on a major expansion plan to increase manufacturing capacity to 15,000 MW in the second phase which is underway and further to 20,000 mw in the third phase.
On Bhel’s in house Research and Development, he said the recent inauguration of the once through supercritical test facility, the sixth in the world, was a shot in the arm for the country’s technical advancement efforts.
