Mumbai: Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, India’s largest sports utility vehicle maker, on Monday said it sold 6% fewer passenger vehicles in February, compared to the year-ago period. The maker of Scorpio and XUV 500 models sold 18,103 units last month, against 19,308 units in February 2014.

Total sales including commercial vehicles dropped 11% to 34,918 units compared to 39,338 units in February 2014, M&M said in a filing to the exchange. In a bid to recoup ground, the company plans to start introducing new models from the first quarter of fiscal 2016. This will include a compact SUV and newer variants of existing models and face-lifts, it said after reporting the third quarter earnings last month.

Mahindra shares closed at 1,277.45, down 1.09% on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The Sensex closed at 29.459.14 points, up 0.33%.
