Kochi: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India private ltd (HMSI), the 100% owned two-wheeler subsidiary of Honda Motor Company of Japan, is targetting a sales of 10 lakh units in the country by next year, a top official said.
Of this, the company expects to sell seven lakh scooters and three lakh Motorcycles, said Shinji Aoyama, CEO and president,HMSI, after unveiling ‘Aviator’, Honda’s new premium scooter in Kerala.
The demand for automated scooters would go up thanks to traffic snarls and rapid urbanisation, he said.
The company’s market share has jumped to 11% against eight percent last year.
HMSI was expecting to cross this year’s sales target of 8.8 lakh units.After successfully reviving the scooter market from the brink of extinction, the company was now set to redefine the positioning of scooters, he said.
The Aviator would be available in two variants, Standard and Deluxe. Deluxe variant has front disc brake and 12 inch Alloy wheels and would be available in five colours - Rebel Red Mettalic, Berry Purple Metallic, Space Silver Metallic, Mansoo Gray Metallic and Pearl Igneous Black, said N K Ratan, head sales and marketing.
The standard variant is priced at Rs40,520 (ex-showroom), he said, adding, the all India launch of the product is on 6 March.
