Mumbai: Maharashtra government owned power distribution utility Mahavitaran Ltd. reported distribution losses (ATC) to 17.28% in Fiscal 2011 as against the target of 17.20% laid down by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). Reduction of 1% in distribution loss, brings additional revenue of Rs.350 crore to the utility.
The press release issued by the company claims, in 2005 when separate distribution utility was carved out of erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), company’s distribution losses were whooping 31.72% and in six years company managed to bring down to 17.28%.
Number of initiatives against pilferage and theft of the electricity and Rs. 10,000 crore network strengthening program helped company to reduce losses to present level and we are confident to meet the target of reducing distribution losses to 15% given by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to distribution utilities by the end of Fiscal 2012 or end of 11th five year plan, said company spokesman.
