AstraZeneca CEO says Pfizer takeover is ‘not inevitable’
Pascal Soriot says Pfizer's current offer significantly undervalues the UK-based pharma company
London:Pascal Soriot, chief executive officer of AstraZeneca PLC, said a sale of the UK drugmaker to Pfizer Inc. is not inevitable and that the current offer significantly undervalues the company.
“AstraZeneca would also need assurances about the future of the new company, including its strategy and its tax status, before agreeing to negotiate a deal," Soriot said on Wednesday in a telephone interview. “The price is really far from what we think the value of the company is," Soriot said. “It’s a package of things to discuss, but it really starts with the price and it has to be at the right level."
AstraZeneca rose 0.3% to 4,657.50 pence at 2:58pm in London.Bloomberg
