Mahindra joins global alliance for connected cars
Voice directions, integrated controls like steering wheel buttons will ensure the driver doesn't have to take eyes off the road
Mumbai: Future models of Mahindra Scorpio and XUV 500 could roll out with Android Auto, an upcoming technology standard aimed at helping a driver access information safely and conveniently while at the wheel.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) on Tuesday said it has become the first Indian automaker to join the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA) which is working to bring Google Inc.’s Android to cars.
Android Auto links smartphones and tablets with the car’s infotainment system. Voice directions and integrated controls like steering wheel buttons will ensure the driver doesn’t have to take eyes off the road. With simple and intuitive interfaces, Android Auto is expected to enhance the driving experience by being connected always.
“We are happy to be part of the OAA and being the first Indian OEM to be part of this prestigious global alliance, it is indeed a moment we are proud of," said Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (of of the automotive division at the firm.
Shah said after successful integration, the company will be offering Android Auto in its flagship models of XUV 500 and the Scorpio as well its future platforms. Android Auto will also bring in-car access for Google Maps and other specially adapted Google services and third party apps, he said.
