Kochi: The Institute of Maritime and Nautical Studies (IMNS), a leading institute providing training to students in marine and allied courses, for the first time in the country has come up with a three month course.

Speaking to mediapersons on 4 July, Rajendra Prasad, Managing Director, IMNS, said the course would provide comprehensive theoretical and practical training to the students and unemployed youth in Kerala in Tower, EOT and Gantry Cranes.

As part of the aim to provide the best possible training to the candidates, IMNS had entered into an exclusive and unique partnership with the Builders Association of India (BAI), Kochi chapter, to provide practical training to the students on Tower Cranes operated and owned by the members of the BAI, he said.

The agreement was signed by Rajendra Prasad and K Lava, Chairman, BAI, Kochi, here today. The demand for well trained crane operators in Kerala, India and Gulf countries far exceeds the present availability. The crane operator course offered by IMNS is the only comprehensive training programme in existence in the country, he said.

IMNS has plans to start such courses at Pathanamthitta, Shornur and Kozhikode in July when the new batch begins, Prasad said. Three batches have completed training at the Institute, which was started two years ago. The fees for three month course will be Rs5000, he said.
