Ahmedabad: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will introduce ‘innovation index’ model for the country soon to understand how well the nation is doing on this count.
“We are trying to come up with an innovation index that could reflect what is happening in the country on this count. It is important to understand how we are doing as a country as compared to the previous year,” chairman CII Innovation Council Dr Naushad Forbes said.
He was speaking at the Innovation Summit-2011 being organised here as a prelude to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.
“It is a collaborative effort with the industry, academia and few global research firms, at the council” another CII Innovation Council member said adding that there is no such index in the country at present which could reflect what was happening on the innovation front.
The industry body is also developing a sort of matrix that will serve as an enabler for measuring the innovation quotient of the firms individually.
“We are looking at some objective basis to decide on how innovative a firm is, and then deciding the top 20 innovative firms in the country,” Forbes said.
“The idea is to come up with some sort of matrix which can tell us how innovative the firm is in its given respective sector,” he said.
“The innovation index models for both the country as well as the firms are expected to be out in March,” Forbes said.
