Air India ground staff go on flash strike

Premium

New Delhi: The Aviation Employees’ Guild, a section of Air India ground staff, went on a flash strike demanding revision of pay scale and other financial benefits on 14August.

The Air India Employees Guild gave the call for strike, demanding revision in HRA and a review of performance-linked incentives (PLI), according to an official spokesperson.

The airline management was holding talks with the Guild in Mumbai and had confirmed that the union had not served any notice before striking work. These issues had also not been raised in any forum earlier and according to the publicity relations department, a majority of the wage issues had already been settled with the unions.

TAccording to a press statement, Air India management did not expect this from a responsible union and therefore urged them to immediately withdraw the strike and resume work.

The management also saw no reason for the union to resort to strike, specially in the wake of continuous dialogue carried out between the management and union. The airline clarified that they had at all times maintained cordial relations with the union and were going to take appropriate action if the strike was not withdrawn.
