New Delhi: The Supreme Court has admitted an appeal filed by Tata Steel Ltd challenging the electricity tribunal’s decision that denied benefit to its unit in Joda, Orissa.
Tata Steel is claiming 25% discount on energy charges it has to pay on producing 50% of the capacity of its ferro alloys unit at Joda for the financial year 2005-06.
Alleging that the denial of benefit was in violation of section 62 of the Electricity Act, 2003, Tata Steel has challenged the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity’s (ATE) verdict on the grounds that its Joda unit had been discriminated against, while similar incentives were given to four other ferro alloy units, including its other unit at Bamanipal.
