Mumbai: Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd (SMIPL), a subsidiary of Japanese auto maker Suzuki Motor Corp., said it will make India the hub for two-wheeler exports to Africa and South America once it establishes itself in the domestic market.
The company started its operations in India in early 2006 and is currently one of the smallest players in the domestic market and sells the Zeus and Heat brands. The market leader is Hero Honda Motors Ltd.
“Our effort is to first establish the company in the domestic market by March 2010,” said Atul Gupta, vice- president, sales and marketing, SMIPL. “After that we will target Africa, South America for export.” Gupta did not share the export target for the company. SMIPL exported 133 vehicles to neighbouring countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh between April and August of this fiscal. Staff Writer
