Wal-Mart plans to open 40 more stores in India

New Delhi: The world’s largest retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. that has formed a wholesale venture with India’s Bharti group, plans to open 40 more cash-and-carry stores in the country, trade minister Anand Sharma said on Sunday.
Bharti Wal-Mart Pvt. Ltd, in which the two companies are equal partners, opened its first Indian wholesale store in Amritsar on 30 May, with initial plans to start 10-15 more outlets and hire 5,000 people during the next three years.
