Bengaluru: Carlsberg India, the domestic arm of Danish brewer Carlsberg group, announced two new contract manufacturing deals in Maharashtra and Jharkhand in a bid to increase its footprint in the country.

In Maharashtra, its contract is with Lilasons Industries Ltd and in Jharkhand it is with Pali Hills Breweries.

“Carlsberg India has seen significant growth from both the states over the last few years. While Maharashtra is a growing market for Carlsberg India and this association is a step towards strengthening our operations in the state; our association in Jharkhand is aimed at ensuring that our focused brand portfolio is available to our consumers in the region," said Carlsberg India managing director Michael N Jensen.

Lilasons has upgraded its brewery operations in Maharashtra with significant investments in equipment, automation and processes and will make Carlsberg Elephant and Tuborg Strong. With Pali Hills, the aim is to establish a local footprint in Jharkhand.

The Pali Hills brewery, which has a production capacity of 0.2 million hectolitres per annum, will also be used to manufacture both Carlsberg and Tuborg brands, the company said.

Carlsberg, the country’s no. 3 beer maker, has been operational in India for over nine years and has, in the process, established seven breweries and two co-manufacturing associations across the country.

Carlsberg India achieved the strongest year-on-year total volume share gain in 2015 among peers in the beer market, according to the annual Euromonitor report published in September, 2016. That growth came off the success of Tuborg Strong in the domestic premium lager category, the report said
