InterGlobe enters travel retail segment

New Delhi: InterGlobe Retail Pvt. Ltd, the retail arm of InterGlobe Enterprises Ltd, which runs low-cost airline Indigo, and Switzerland-based Dufry International AG, have signed an agreement to open retail stores at airports, and metro and train stations in India.
The two will open 48 Hudson News Café in metro stations in Delhi in association with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Dufry operates around 500 Hudson News shops in 10 countries around the world.
A DMRC spokesperson said the company had rented out retail space to InterGlobe for 15 years. Around 2 million passengers pass through DMRC’s stations every day InterGlobe Retail Pvt. Ltd, the retail arm of InterGlobe Enterprises Ltd, which runs low-cost airline Indigo, and Switzerland-based Dufry International AG, have signed an agreement to open retail stores at airports, and metro and train stations in India.
The two will open 48 Hudson News Café in metro stations in Delhi in association with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Dufry operates around 500 Hudson News shops in 10 countries around the world. It offers a selection of food and beverages, newspapers, magazines, books, confectionery, health and beauty aids, electronics, and mobile recharge and travel accessories.
InterGlobe’s agreement with Dufry includes trademark and franchisee agreements.
Financial details of the partnership weren’t immediately available.
“We have been in talks with DMRC for 9 months now, and DMRC’s property development team was pretty keen to have classy retail outlets. They liked our proposal, which went through various committees before it got accepted,” said Siddhanta Sharma, Director, InterGlobe Retail.
Sharma added that InterGlobe would invest Rs15 crore in the project and Dufry, Rs5 crore.
A DMRC spokesperson said the company had rented out retail space to InterGlobe for 15 years. Around 2 million passengers pass through DMRC’s stations every day.
