Healthcare providers to spend $1.2 billion on IT in 2015
The spending covers software, IT services, date centre, devices, telecom services and internal services
Hyderabad: Healthcare providers in India, including hospitals, ambulatory services and physicians, will spend $1.2 billion on information technology (IT) services and products in 2015, a 7% increase over last year, technology researcher Gartner Inc. projected on Monday.
The spending covers software, IT services, date centre, devices, telecom services and internal services. IT services will be the largest spending category during this period, growing 7% to touch $334 million in 2015. IT services includes consulting, implementation, IT outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO). Of the $334 million, ITO will account for the largest spending category among the sub-segments, growing 10% to touch $103 million this year, while BPO services will record the fastest growth rate of 15%.
“The growth in the Indian healthcare ICT (information and communications technology) market will be driven by the private sector mainly focusing in tertiary specialized care, secondary hospital care and the government investments on core public health and primary care across several states," Anurag Gupta, research vice-president at Gartner, said in a statement.
Greater investment by the heathcare sector in IT products and services will reflect positively for the healthcare verticals of traditional IT services firms including Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, and IT firms including Microsoft Corp. that make patient care management software. It will also mean good news for start-ups Practo, eKincare, HealthSignz and CallHealth, among others, that are increasing the penetration of IT in the healthcare domain.
