New Delhi: Global telecom equipment maker UTStarcom is expecting $100 mn (Rs 450 crore) revenues from the Indian market this year, a growth of 70% over the previous year with the country becoming the third largest market for the company.
“We are expecting to reach the $100 mn mark in India this year at a growth rate of 70% which will catapult India to the third position in terms of revenues from fourth currently," UTStarcom Senior Vice President International Sales and Marketing David King told PTI.
The company also expects India to be its second largest market in terms of infrastructure bookings by the end of this year, overtaking Japan in the process.
The company yesterday bagged a ₹ 550 crore contract from state-run BSNL for deploying 1.3 mn broadband lines across the country and a deal with MTNL last year to deploy IPTV services.
“With the recent deployment of our IPTV solution with MTNL and the win with BSNL, India is poised to be the fastest growing market for UTStarcom and will continue to play an integral role in the future success of the company," he said.
UTStarcom is also planning to set up a manufacturing facility for broadband equipment in India.
“We are scouting various locations for setting up of the manufacturing facility which should be up and running in 2008," UTStarcom’s International Marketing Director Manish Matta said. However, he declined to give the exact details of the location and investment.
