Mumbai: Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is planning to enter the nuclear power sector, a top company official has said.

“We are looking forward to enter the nuclear sector and working on nuclear projects. We are waiting to see how the sector opens up," whole-time director and president of machinery and industrial projects division of L&T J. P. Nayak told reporters here.

The company has the know-how and would get into manufacturing boilers, turbines and breeding of nuclear reactors, he said.

Referring to the various plans and projects of the Rs20,000-crore company which is observing the centenary year of its co-founder Henning Holck-Larsen, Nayak said the company has been bidding for various construction and power projects in the country.

It has also bid for some ultra-mega power projects, he added.

“Even if we do not win the order for the projects as a promoter, we can look forward to getting the job of a contractor for the same project," Nayak said.

The company could not win the Delhi Airport modernisation project as a promoter but it is working there as a contractor, he said, adding the company also did not bag the ultra mega power projects at Mundra and Sasan, but it may get to build them through a sub-contract as the company has the expertise to build a power project.
