TVS to focus on Tier II, Tier III towns for increasing sales

Tiruchirapalli: T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Limited, the parent company of the automobile major TVS, will concentrate on Tier III and Tier IV towns to sell motor vehicles, according to a top company official.

R Dinesh, Joint Managing Director of the company, said 20 outlets would be opened before the end of this fiscal. the locations were Sangagiri, Kumbakonam, Karaikal and Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, while in kerala, it would be in Kasargod and Kanjangod and also on the outskirts of Kochi and Kollam.

The company has 80 sales and service outlets in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and Uttaranchal. Among these outlets, 34 sell Ashok Leyland vehicles, he said.

Dinesh, who was speaking to repoters on the sidelines of a function at Perambulur near here yesterday, said the company on an average sells 32,000 to 35000 vehicles per annum. This includes 16000 from Ashok Leyland directly and another 8,000 sold by the OEM and served by TVS. Sale of Mahindra and Mahindra vehicles was 11000 and Honda cars, 2000.

He said the company registered 4,090 crore turnover in 2006-07. Pending completion of audit, turnover in the year ending March 31, 2008 would be 4.300 crore. With this trend projection for the curent year would be 4,500 crore,he said

The recently launched “Multi Brand Truck Parts Shop" had proved successful and there were now about 75 outlets across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The company planned to open 12 such shops in Karnataka and 18 in Andhra Pradesh.

On the used car business, he said about 4000 units were sold last year in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The target for this year is to exceed 5000 cars, he said.
