SCI places order with Chinese yard for container vessel

Mumbai: India’s largest shipping company by fleet, the Shipping Corp. of India Ltd. (SCI) , on 14 July, has placed order for one container vessel that can carry 3,500 twenty foot containers, with Rongcheng Shenfei Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., China.
The shipyard was selected for building the vessel through competitive global tendering process, SCI said in a media statement.
This container vessel ordered now would be delivered to SCI in early 2013.
SCI presently operates five container services in the Indian - Far East, Indian subcontinent - Europe, the West Asia and the Mediterranean sector. With the current order as mentioned above, SCI’s orderbook has increased to 31 vessels.
