New Delhi: Norway based communications, IT and media company Telenor announced that the world’s first authorized in-flight mobile phone call on a commercial flight took place on EK751 flying between Dubai and Casablanca on 20 March. This follows the successful introduction of the AeroMobile system, a joint venture between Telenor and ARINC.
According to Telenor, AeroMobile will facilitate the start of regular and safe use of mobile telephony and data services onboard airplanes.

This marks the start of regular use of mobile telephony and data services onboard airplanes. Field studies and market research clearly show that there is strong interest in in-flight mobile communications among passengers, particularly among business travelers and frequent flyers.
AeroMobile’s solutions allow passengers the convenience of safe use of their personal mobile phones during flights exactly as they do on the ground. Calls are conveniently billed directly to passengers’ existing mobile phone accounts as international roaming calls.
