Citi hires cards CEO from American Express
New York: Citigroup Inc has hired American Express Co executive Jud Linville as its new chief executive officer of cards, the company said on Tuesday.
Linville spent 20 years at American Express, most recently as president and chief executive officer of US consumer services. He will replace Paul Galant as head of Citigroup’s card unit.
Galant will become the chief executive of a new global enterprise payments unit, which will develop “comprehensive business-to-consumer and consumer-to-business payments solutions" for global corporations, financial institutions and governments, Citigroup said.
Galant, a 10-year veteran of Citigroup, ran the bank’s global transaction services business before taking over Citigroup’s cards unit in April 2009.
In his new role, he will report to Manuel Medina-Mora, Citigroup’s chief executive officer of consumer banking for the Americas, and John Havens, chief executive officer of the bank’s institutional clients group.
Linville also will report to Medina-Mora and will become a member of Citigroup’s executive committee.
Citigroup shares were trading down about 1% at $3.95 on Tuesday afternoon.
