Mumbai: GoAir, the low fare airline run by the Wadia group’s Go Airlines (India) Ltd, has named Wolfgang Prock-Schauer as the new chief executive officer (CEO). Prock-Schauer was CEO of larger rival Jet Airways (India) Ltd between 2003 and 2009.

With more than 34 years of experience, Prock-Schauer has served as the CEO of some of the major airlines across Europe and Asia.

Prock-Schauer, an Austrian will take charge of GoAir with effect from June, the airline said in a statement.

Prior to joining GoAir, Prock-Schauer held the position of CEO and executive director of Air Berlin, a German airline carrying over 32 million passengers annually, with 140 aircraft operations.

“We are delighted to have Prock-Schauer on board. With his rich experience of 34 years in the industry we are confident Wolfgang will add immense value to our business," said Jeh Wadia, managing director of GoAir.

In March, GoAir CEO Giorgio De Roni resigned without citing any reasons. De Roni was instrumental in turning around the airline, which reported small profits during his four year stint at GoAir. He had placed a huge order of 72 Airbus A320neo aircraft for GoAir.

“We are also pleased to inform that the company has made significant increase in the operating revenue by 21% with EBITDA (earning before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) reporting a substantial improvement of 76% over the previous financial Year. The passenger growth was 13.2% over last year, the market share went from 8.5% to 9.3% and the load factor from 74.3% to 79.2% for the financial year ended 31 March, 2015," Wadia said.

Started in November 2005, GoAir currently operates across 21 destinations with over 975 flights and approximately 2,000 plus connections weekly.

GoAir flies to Ahmedabad, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Port Blair, Pune, Ranchi and Srinagar.
