Bangalore: Semiconductor firm, NEC Electronics announced on Wednesday the opening of its first liaison office in India for providing enhanced support to local and multinational corporations in the region.

NEC said by increasing sales of its lineup of microcontrollers, system-on-chip, and discrete semiconductor devices in India and its “bolstering" relationships with local vendors, it aims to achieve around $20 million in local sales (India) and around $100 million in new designs to multinational corporations. Operations in India will commence by 31 March, 2011.

Kawasaki, Japan-headquartered NEC had net sales of $5.9 billion for the year ended 31 March, 2007. The company had approximately 24,000 employees as of end of 2007.

NEC will offer technical assistance and advanced design support for multinational corporations with operations in the region, and facilitate implementation of NEC Electronics devices by local businesses.

“Bangalore has become one of the world’s major hubs for technology and development, and India is home to the fastest-growing semiconductor market in Asia," said Toshio Nakajima, president and CEO, NEC Electronics.

“The establishment of this liaison office underscores NEC Electronics’ commitment to our local and global customers in this rapidly market," he said.

NEC will provide local support to MNCs with hardware and software development bases in India. Field application engineers (FAEs) will offer assistance with implementing semiconductors in a wide range of consumer electronics, automotive and industrial systems, it was stated.
