Tiruchirapalli: Power equipment maker BHEL’s unit here has registered a record turnover of Rs4,575 crore during 2006-07, up 30% over the previous year.

The net profit clocked a year-on-year growth of 103% at Rs804 crore for the fiscal.

Talking to reporters here, BHEL Group General Manager R.N. Mishra said the company would spend Rs190 crore on modernisation and upgradation of the plant to enhance its capacity to 5,750 MW from 4,000 MW at present.

The work on modernisation was expected to complete before October, he said adding the capacity of the unit would be enhanced to 10,000 MW by 2009-10.

The unit was expected to earn a turnover of over Rs5,400 crore for financial year 2007-08, Mishra said.
