Mumbai: Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, India’s largest manufacturer of tractors and farm equipment, has signed a technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Agriculture Machines Co. Ltd to for agricultural machinery technology that will give the Indian firm crop specific solution.
Mitsubishi will initially provide technology for making rice transplanters, senior M&M officials said at a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday. The transplanters will help farmers improve the quality of yield, increase productivity, and significantly cut labour costs, they said. Rice transplanters are used to transfer seedlings from the nursery to the fields.
The company has outlined an investment of Rs15 crore into the facility for producing the machines, which will retail at Rs1.75 lakh.
Anjani Kumar Choudhari, president (farm equipment sector), at M&M said the collaboration will help it strengthen the farm mechanization equipment portfolio it inherited from the acquisition of Punjab Tractors Ltd. M&M will produce the transplanters at its factory in Nagpur where it makes other farm mechanization equipment.
