New Delhi: GoAir, India’s third largest budget airline, has firmed up an order to buy 72 Airbus A320neo planes, taking its order book to 144 aircraft.

The Mumbai-based Wadia Group firm said the agreement to firm up the order was sealed on 30 December. A memorandum of understanding was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow last year.

“The A320neo provides the latest technical innovations and unbeatable economics. We are happy to offer our passengers the most modern and comfortable cabins. This new order will further strengthen our network by adding more domestic and international routes in the years to come," said GoAir managing director & chief executive officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer.

As part of a previous order GoAir has already started taking delivery of A320neos starting in June 2016. It now operates a fleet of 23 planes, controlling about 8% of the domestic market.

GoAir plans to launch flights to international destinations this year.

“By doubling its order to 144 aircraft, GoAir will benefit from a greatly expanded network," Airbus Commercial Aircraft’ chief operating officer (customers) John Leahy said in a statement.

GoAir has 180 seats in its A320 planes. The Neos will have seat configuration which will allow it to accommodate 186 passengers.

Neos are expected to deliver 15% in fuel savings, going up to 20% by 2020 with further cabin innovations, the airline said.
